First, and foremost, everything we do should be done to glorify God—pure and simple. Because God has commanded us to GO, we are then glorifying Him to obey His command. Consider . . .
“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me…” John 14:21
“Go . . . and make disciples of all nations.” Mt. 28:18-20
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Mark 16:15
Sometimes, we over-complicate things. We think our hearts have to be totally pure and our compassion for the lost has to be overflowing to perfection before we can open our mouths to proclaim Jesus. Of course, we should pray for pure hearts and fullness of compassion. Yet, we will never be perfect in that regard. Being faithful to Jesus and His command is actually a wonderful motive, and it provides a solid foundation for us to press on.
J.I. Packer puts it this way, “If, therefore, we love God, and are concerned to glorify Him, we must obey His command to evangelize.” So, the real question to ask yourself today is a simple one: “Am I decisively and intentionally and actively seeking to obey my Jesus in making His gospel known to lost people?” Are you? . . .
