WHAT IS MY PURPOSE, LORD?

Think about it, philosophers from way back to Aristotle and Plato and on up to present have been asking, “What is the meaning of life?” Most people are groping blindly from one thing to the next trying desperately to scratch the itch of really doing something that counts. And, it’s all so empty! So very empty . . .

Yet, to those who have been graciously brought from darkness to light, who have been translated from the kingdom of Satan and darkness into the glorious dominion of King Jesus, meaning and purpose are so glroriously clear! We were lost, slaves of sin. We were under the horrible grip of death and of the wrath of God–hopeless, dead while breathing. Then, Jesus awakened us, saved us, redeemed us, adopted us, reconciled us to the Father, has gone to prepare a home for us in Heaven, and presently sits beside the Father, making intercession for us. And, if that weren’t enough, He has declared in such a pure and simple way–so beautifully simple that even a child can comprehend–what our purpose is. We are to give ourselves to know Him and to MAKE HIM KNOWN. Jesus came with a mission. He came to seek and to save the lost. After rising from the dead, He said to His disciples (and thus to us), “As the Father sent me, so I send you.” And, Lord how would that be? Clearly–to seek and save the lost.

So, dear child of God, you have glorious purpose. Look around you at the darkness. Then arise and go forth with the light of the gospel. Go and sow those powerful gospel seeds, and trust our great Saviour to give them growth!
